Maybe it is just me but there is something comforting about sitting in a cozy booth having a good meal at a nice restaurant on a cold winter evening. Susan and my experience last night at Omaha’s 7M Grill certainly fit the bill. We ate early on our way to a church function and to say the place was quiet would be an understatement. One other couple was seated when we arrived shortly after 6:00 pm and one other group of three came in before we left an hour later. Our server Rick indicated that Mondays are just that way.
Under a bit of a time crunch we didn’t study the menu to the degree that we might normally have and ended up ordering two items that had caught Susan’s eye when she visited their web site just before leaving the house. It was the roasted chicken for me and the havarti portabella sirloin pasta for Susan. Its kind of funny to me but it seems that the only way that you can order chicken with bones these days is if you get chicken wings and even those now come boneless. This was a roasted half chicken, complete with bones, rubbed with just the right combination of spices and served hot right out of the oven. The chicken came with with hearty garlic mashed potatoes not the smooth and creamy style that you might have had with Thanksgiving dinner along with a roasted corn medley and a smallish cup of jalapeno bacon gravy that was just wonderful . Comfort food is the term that comes to mind for me.
Susan’s penne pasta dish was topped with sliced New York strip steak done just the way she ordered it. The portabella mushroom havarti cheese cream sauce pushed right to the edge of overpowering but was a very tasty compliment to the steak. The house salad was pretty basic but the house creamy balsamic blue cheese dressing was well received. We didn’t have time to enjoy the wine selection or desert but we each had one of Omaha’s own Lucky Bucket Winter Abbey beer which was perfect on a cold winter’s night. This was our first trip to the 7M Grill but certainly not our last.
